Primary School Numeracy

Once again it has been a very busy term with assessments, excursions and incursions. Students have been engaged in a variety of topics in Numeracy. As you know, after each topic there is a test for students to complete. Once these tests are marked I then enter the results onto SEQTA. Please check SEQTA frequently for the latest marks.

As part of literacy and numeracy week students enjoyed the incursion from Professor Maths in which exciting and stimulating maths activities were set up around the room for students to explore. After a motivating introduction from the Professor, students explored each activity in their groups and at their own pace. Working together, they solved each mathematical problem whilst having fun. The activities connect with State and National Maths curriculums, but also teach students social skills, how to listen, how to follow directions, how to take turns, how to cooperate, and how to communicate and plan ahead.

Another reminder, please, that Mathletics homework is due every Monday and students are given ten tasks to complete in the week. The Maths Mentals homework book is also due in the week. Year 5 students hand it in on Thursdays and Year 6 students hand it in on Fridays. Please monitor your child’s homework.

Have a safe term break and I look forward to seeing all students back in Term 4.

Kind regards,
Ms Nesrin Gocmen
